“It was an error” Transfers between bank accounts linked to MoMo wallet should not attract E-Levy – GRA
In response to concerns raised by transactions between bank accounts and mobile money wallets, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has reiterated its stance on the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) fees.
The GRA has said unequivocally that no E-Levy fees should be applied to accounts that are directly linked to a mobile money wallet during transactions.
An X user asked for clarification regarding recent deductions that have been publicized on social media, and this explanation was provided.
“Is there a directive from your office regarding taxes imposed on the transfer of funds from bank accounts to linked momo numbers? @Ghana Revenue.
In response, the GRA clarified that any charges incurred in such transactions are errors on the part of the charging entities.
The GRA emphasized that these charges are illegal, as the laws surrounding the E-levy have not changed.
“No, please. It is an error on the part of the charging entities. The law has not changed. Transfers between accounts owned by the same person should not attract the E-levy,” the GRA said in its Twitter reply.
