2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Comoros beat Ghana to top Group I, Ghana now on 4th

Myziane Maolida’s outstanding goal in the first half was enough to give the Southern African team an upset victory over the Black Stars at home.

Ghana’s coach Chris Hughton started three different players from the starting lineup in last Friday’s World Cup qualifying match against Madagascar.

For the match against Comoros, Kassim Nuhu Adams, Denis Odoi, and Andre Ayew started in place of Daniel Amartey, Alidu Seidu, and Mohammed Kudus, respectively.

Even though Ghana tried to push more players forward in the closing fifteen minutes, Comoros managed to hold on and secure a historic victory—their second straight over the Black Stars after defeating Ghana in the most recent AFCON.

With six points, the Coelacanths have now taken the lead in Group I of the Africa World Cup qualifiers, while Ghana has dropped to fourth position following their unfortunate loss on Tuesday.
