The Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency a subsidiary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation Engineer Dr Worlanyo Siabi has disclosed that from the ground zero in 2017 have Raked in 42 million Ghana cedis as of now.

Briefing the media at the Ministry of Information as an obligation to give account of his stewardship at the sector to the public ,he intimated that this repositioned the agency in sound financial footing. Dr. Worlanyo told the Media that this has enabled the agency to employ more qualified staff to push the agency forward.

According to him by 2017 January, the agency had only 196 staff throughout the whole country.Suprisingly as of 2023 , the agency has the staff strength of 1418 permanent staff and planning to employ some more. He however lamented about commercial and system losses that stand at 36 % of production through old machinery and illegal connections. As a result his outfit is liaising with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to build robots to detect illegal connections found outside their keyed in systems.

He argued that the losses are a major challenge affecting his outfit and SIGA has asked them to reduce it to 25 % minimum. He indicated that when he took over the agency it had losses of 70 % , but reduced it to 50 % in the second year and further reduced it to 36 % at the moment . Making reference to global standards, he indicated that elsewhere the allowable losses is 15 or 10 % . He promised to do his best to reduce the losses to 25 % to enable the agency make more money to improve on its transactions and services .

He also said that the agency has roped in 145 m ghc through grants and services and the government through the Ministry of Finance has given the agency 450m ghc to undertake several projects. These include rehabilitation of worn out equipment, retooling, construction of new systems, bore holes, mechanised bore holes, water systems, replacement of old pipes and relocation of pipes and tanks in some communities.

He regretted the abandonment of some water equipment, systems and structures to rot in some communities in the country. The CEO asserted that so far in conjunction with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation these two bodies have brought water supply to about 74 % .

He once again revealed that about 37 % of the population have not been connected but his agency needs about 250 million dollars to fix it .” If we get this money, we can reach all communities. The money be it a loan or grant can be recouped through sale of the generated water therefrom .This loan can turn things around and give a big muscle to the agency to effectively perform “.
