Wontumi’s decision to conduct Mampong election an act of disrespect – NPP Vice Chairman
The Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alhaji Osman Masawudu has described a directive by the party’s Ashanti Regional Executives that outlined the guidelines for the conduct of Area Coordinator and Constituency Executive Elections as ridiculous.
He also said the decision by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako known widely as Chairman Wontumi is a disrespect of the party’s National Executives.
The sharp criticism from Alhaji Osman Masawudu comes after the Ashanti Regiona executive in a statement signed by the Regional Secretary Mr Kwame Adom Appiah outlined guidelines for the conduct of the conduct of Area Coordinator and Constituency Executive elections in the area.
However, responding to the directive, the National Executives of the party in a counter statement rejected the earlier statement from the Ashanti Regional Executives describing it as an error.
“This statement was issued without the authorization from the National Secretariat of the party in accordance with the Party Constitution and therefore in error”, the statement signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the party said.
“On account of this, you are hereby instructed to suspend all activities in respect of the conduct of the said election in Mampong and await future instructions in due course”, the statement added.
But speaking on the matter on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGH.com, the third Vice Chair of the party Alhaji Osman Masawudu insisted that the act by the Ashanti Regional executives led by Chairman Wontumi is disrespect to the NPP.
“If you do not respect the National Executives, then it means you don’t respect the party itself. It is not the Regional Secretary who is going to face this, even Wontumi. Wontumi is not above the law, so how come? Are you the Regional Executives now going to tell us that you are managing the party”, Alhaji Osman Masawudu wondered.
“Are you fighting us? So what they did is ridiculous, out of sense and we disregard the letter today and tomorrow. There is no election to be conducted under this regional executives directives. If he thinks his power is more than that of the national executives we will see”, he added.
