CAF rejects Cape Coast stadium, Medeama & Dreams FC to play Champions League games in Kumasi
Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi will host Medeama SC’s CAF Champions League group round matches.
Although the Cape Coast Stadium served as the venue for their initial qualification matches, a recent CAF inspection determined that it was unsuitable for senior international matches.
As a result, the only location in Ghana authorized to host these kinds of events, including CAF inter-club group stage matches, is Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Medeama’s opponents in Group D of the competition include the reigning champions Al Ahly SC, CR Belouizdad of Algeria, and Young Africans, a formidable team from Tanzania.
They will play their first group encounter against Al Ahly in Cairo, then host Belouizdad at the Baba Yara Stadium for the second round.
They will play Young Africans and Al Ahly at home in that order in the coming games.
The group stage matches for the CAF Champions League are slated to start on November 25 and 26, 2023, and end on March 1 and 2, 2024.
