Just In: Kotoko to be fined more than GHC5,000.00 following alleged hooliganism at Dr Kwame Stadium – Details

Asante Kotoko is Expected to Face Sanctions from the GFA: Following Porcupine Warriors fans’ Sunday destruction of several stadium seats at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Asante Kotoko is Expected to Face Charges from the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

The game ended 2-2 in the matchday 6 of the Betpawa Ghana premier league.

Four goals were scored in the first-ever match between the Reds and the newly promoted Ghana Premier League team in the Ashanti derby, which more than lived up to expectations.

However, the beauty of the match was overshadowed by the aggressive behavior of certain Kotoko fans who were in the Abranke stadium.

After Steven Mukwala’s equalizer and Michael Kyei Dwamena’s effort put Kotoko up 2-1, referee Latif Abdul Qadir gave the home team a late penalty. The FIFA referee was forced to temporarily stop the game as the enraged Kotoko fans began to stir chaos by tearing apart the plastic seats they had been sitting on and throwing them onto the playing field.

“Throwing of sachet water, plastic bottles and other objects onto the field of play shall attract a fine of not less than Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh¢5,000.00)”.

“The Association shall hold clubs responsible for the misconduct of their supporters before, during and after a match.” Article 34 of the Ghana Premier League Regulations (2019 edition) stipulates.
