Akufo-Addo cautions NDC not to ‘celebrate’ because of current crisis

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has noted that some opponents are celebrating already as a result of the current economic hardship facing the country.

He pointed out that some of these opponents, especially elements in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are of the conviction that the government cannot steer the country out of the crisis.

But the President said this is similar to how those same elements wrote him off before he became President in 2016 and got re-elected 2020.

“I know that there are people especially the National Democratic Congress who have begun to celebrate already because of the difficulties of the country,” he said in an interview on Nandom FM on Monday, August 22.

“One swallow does not make a summer. Tell them. They shouldn’t hesitate. They have been writing me off all my political career.

“I could never make it. I couldn’t win. I have won twice and I am going to win again for the party in December 2024.”

President Akufo-Addo, who is on a working visit to the Upper West Region, said his desire is to ensure that he hands over the leadership of the country to a New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2025.

He, therefore, pledged to do all he can to assist the party’s leadership fulfill this, and one is to steer the country out of the economic crisis.

What he is requesting from the NPP is to come out of its presidential primary unscathed.

“Let’s create the conditions for a fair, transparent process, one that will enable us after the competition to unite. We want out of that process somebody who will come, who will have the capacity to unite our party and put it in a position to confront the traditional opponent the National Democratic Congress and beat the National Democratic Congress in December 2024.”
