OSP asks Chief Justice for new judge to handle Cecilia Dapaah’s case
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has asked Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to remove Justice Edward Twum from his position as the presiding judge on the case to confirm the seizure and freeze of Cecilia Dapaah’s properties.
.The office plans to file a motion asking the court to approve its decision to seize approximately 2.8 million cedis and $590,000 discovered in Cecilia Dapaah’s residence and the freezing of her bank accounts on the grounds that they were contaminated properties.
This comes after the court on Wednesday approved an application by Cecilia Dapaah’s attorneys to change the confirmation hearing date from its original date of October 18 to a far earlier date.
However, the special prosecutor’s office’s attorneys argue that Justice Edward Twum is biased against them and so cannot hear the application.
The OSP made the request because it thinks Justice Edward Twum appears to have strong biases against the OSP and the Special Prosecutor.
As a result, under the current circumstances, it is unreasonable to suppose that the OSP will participate in any proceedings before the aforementioned court.
