Leaders Should Focus On Solar Powered Panels – COPEC Boss
The Executive Secretary of the Chambers of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah has advised leaders to focus on solar powered panels as a form of renewable energy for vehicles used for public transport.
This statement followed after a heads up was made by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia which indicated that in the few years to come, Ghana will introduce the usage of electric vehicles for public transport.
Mr. Amoah in an interview with Kessben News, indicated that Ghana has sun in abundance and that can be used as a renewable energy to charge vehicles therefore drivers will not have to use power from the grid.
He further noted that, it is a good consideration that Ghana won’t be left behind but all the same there should be good emphasis on the solar powered panels so that the sun in our part of the world would be put to good use.
However, in an interview with the Head of Communications at the GPRTU, Mr Abass Imoro had a different view on the subject. Mr. Imoro emphatically argued that too many questions need to be answered regarding the introduction of electric vehicles.
This introduction of electric vehicles according to Abass Imoro has its positive and negative side. He stated that the idea from government signals “modern slavery” that the foreign nations would use to drain Africans once again.
Mr Imoro continued to state that, there would be much inconveniences with the usage of electric vehicles for public transport. He said, drivers will tow long queues just to get their electric motors charge since the vehicles would run on electricity
He further indicated that, if electric vehicles tend to be expensive, drivers who work commercially might be left high and dry. He emphasized that commercial drivers work to earn profit not losses hence the need for government to answer all their questions regarding the usage of the electric vehicles.
Mr Abass Imoro debunked claims that say that, fuel vehicles cause pollution that harm the climate. He argued that if that were the case, countries like USA should not be experiencing flooding rather, he strongly believes there is a change in the lunar system therefore resulting in the climate change.
