The National Media Commission does not have any right to tell the Media what to do – Prof Aye Boafo

The Chairman of the National Media Commission, Prof Aye Boafo has reiterated that the commission does not have the right to tell what media in Ghana should do.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye, Prof Aye Boafo stressed that the Government agency does not have the authority to determine what media houses in Ghana channel out.

Even though they are mandated to regulate what comes out from the media, he said they possess no power to determine what a media house should do.

He added that one of the core mandates of the National Media Commission is ensuring the media discharge their duties fairly on the grounds of freedom the laws of Ghana stipulate.

Prof Aye Boafo emphasized that they do not have the power to bite or strike any serious action against media houses that overstep their boundaries except in cases where complaints are reported.

In cases of complaints to the commission, the NMC has the right only to order for apology and retraction, he indicated.
