Accra Regional Police Commander COP Sayibu Gariba summoned over brutalities at #OccupyJulorbiHouse demo

The Police Management Board (POMAB) has called COP Sayibu Gariba, the regional police commander for Accra, to testify over the barbaric treatment of #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters by the police.

On September 21, the police used excessive force against the demonstrators who were rallying against the government’s economic policies and alleged corruption. Nearly 50 demonstrators were detained, including journalists.

Ghanaians were outraged by the incident and claimed that the police used disproportionate force against defenseless individuals.

According to sources within the Police Service, the Police Service has taken a serious approach to the situation and has spoken with COP Gariba and summoned him to explain what transpired.

The incident will also be the subject of a thorough inquiry.

The Police Service has since expressed regret to the populace for whatever trouble the three-day protests may have caused.

Democracy Hub was the group in charge of organizing the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration. The group is requesting that the government look into claims of corruption and deal with the nation’s economic issues.
