Just In: Sudan reportedly appoint Kwesi Appiah as head coach
According to African football journalist Micky Junior, the Sudanese FA has announced the selection of veteran Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah as their new head coach of the nation.
Kwesi Appiah has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with the Sudan FA.
In 2014, Kwesi Appiah worked as a coach with Al Khartoum in the Sudan. Most recently, he was appointed to the Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee.
The seasoned gaffer has extensive experience coaching national teams, having filled in for foreigners Claude Le Roy and Milovan Rajevac from 2007 to 2012.
The squad reached the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil under his permanent leadership in 2012, making him the first Black African coach to accomplish that accomplishment.
In 2011, in Maputo, Mozambique, he guided the U-23 team from Ghana to victory in the All Africa Games.
In September 2014, he resigned from his job as manager for Ghana with mutual consent.
He replaced former Chelsea manager Avram Grant when he was re-appointed as the Black Stars manager in April 2017, however, he was fired in January 2020.
