System Delays: The EC deliberately wants to limit the registration of constituencies that are strongholds of NDC – Mahdi Gibrill

The deputy director of elections for the national democratic congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibrill has said that the efforts being made by the electoral commission within the registration period are not encouraging.

Speaking with Kwame Appiah Kubi also known as Mr. Speaker on Kessben TV’s Maakye’s he elaborated that the number of people captured by the EC as being able to successfully complete the registration process within the period of six days since the registration commenced is not promising.

“Based on the records of the EC, 180,000 voters have been able to register so far but looking at the said number, if the electoral commission had provided the right types of equipment needed for the registration exercise over two hundred thousand voters would have been in records now”.

According to him, the number of people who vacate the registration centers without registering is more than those who are able to register almost every day.

He stressed that the electoral commission’s failure to present some centers with the appropriate types of equipment is deliberate because they want to limit the registration, especially in constituencies that are strongholds of the national democratic congress (NPP) to favor the new patriotic party.

” The EC is to be blamed if a lot of people are not able to register by the end of the duration for the exercise. For the past three days now some areas such as Bawku and Afram plains have not been able to conduct the exercise because there are no types of equipment available. We make complaints to the EC every day but it turns out to be unproductive” He said.

He added that the electoral commission is not putting the citizen’s interest at heart looking at the way they are handling the registration exercise and that the calculations which were made on the targeted voters to register were not appropriate.
