Hearts of Oak appoint Martino Koopman, Dutchman as new head coach

The Dutch trainer, who last managed the Maldives national team from 2019 to 2021, joined Accra Hearts of Oak as the head coach.

In preparation for their preseason friendly against lower division team Miracle Land Football Club, Koopman was officially welcomed into the team on Thursday.

Since parting ways with Serbian manager Slavko Matic last season after a string of defeats and a fan backlash, Hearts had been without a reliable head coach.

Irate supporters attacked the team’s training facility at Pobiman during Matic’s final days in control of the club, with some even attacking him.

After being fired, assistant coach David Ocloo was given the opportunity to serve as interim manager through the rest of the season.

Koopman, on the other hand, comes to Hearts with some previous experience coaching on the continent and managing AS Vita Club.
