Congress approves AshantiGold’s suspension, can no longer partake in all football activities until further notice
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally banned Ashantigold Sporting Club from all associated activities.
The decision was made at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Great Hall at the GFA 29th Ordinary Congress.
This comes after the club decided to keep communicating with suspended officials Kwaku and Emmanuel Frimpong, who were barred by the GFA for violating its code of conduct by rigging games.
The GFA Disciplinary Committee imposed 10-year and 8-year bans on AshantiGold and Inter Allies, respectively, for allegedly manipulating a match. The teams involved were also demoted to Division Two League.
Following the decision, which was announced prior to the conclusion of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, a number of players and coaches also received suspensions.
The GFA has, however, entirely suspended the Obuasi-based club from all official football activities as a result of the club’s decision to take action against the suspensions, which was approved by Congress.
Ameenu Shardow, the Dreams FC administrative manager, moved the motion to suspend the Ashantigold, but King Faisal bankroller Alhaji Grusah opposed it, allowing a headcount vote in which 67 people supported the proposal and 17 people opposed it.
This implies that Ashantigold cannot engage in GFA activities such as competing in all events and participating in future Congresses, among other things until a later decision.
