Security of Chinese illegal miners allegedly shoots 22-year-old man to death
Kwaku Etsi, a 22-year-old male, was shot and killed allegedly by a security guard for Chinese illegal miners in Hiawa, a hamlet in the Amenfi Central Constituency of the Western Region.
According to community reports, the incident took place following a number of youth protests.
According to the report, the deceased was shot dead after being spotted on the grounds of the Chinese miners early on June 29, 2023.
Although it is unclear what purpose the dead was serving on the Chinese miners’ property, it is believed that he was there to take their black sand, which contained unprocessed gold.
The suspect fled the neighborhood after the security guard murdered the young guy, and the grieving teenager protested the young man’s killing in the street.
They allegedly broke into every apartment building where the Chinese illegal miners lived in the neighborhood.
According to reports, the teenagers also damaged other Chinese nationals’ property.
Galamseyers, or illegal miners, are responsible for a growing portion of Ghana’s gold production.
These miners have recently purchased equipment from China.
