John Dumelo turns Okada man, storms Assin North to campaign for the NDC (Video)
The NDC is vying to retain the seat in the Assin North by-elections, which are set for this Tuesday, June 27. John Dumelo has been seen supporting the party’s nominee.
James Gyakye Quayson, who is running for re-election to the House of Representatives, and John Dumel, together with other NDC stalwarts, have descended on the location to show their unwavering support for him.
About his motorcycle campaign ride in Assin Kushea, Dumelo tweeted. He can be heard yelling the NDC’s campaign motto, “3y3 Zu,” while some of his fans, who were not photographed, answer with “3y3 Za.”
Remember that the Supreme Court earlier provided a thorough justification for why it thought James Gyakye Quayson’s election was illegitimate because, by law, he was not eligible to run for the Assin North seat in 2020.
The court found that Mr. Quayson was ineligible to run for the Assin North seat because he did not renounce his citizenship before submitting an application to do so in October 2020, when the EC began accepting nominations.
“We state without any equivocation that Article 94(2) (a) means that to be qualified to be a Member of Parliament, a citizen of Ghana must not hold any other citizenship at the time when nominations are opened by the Electoral Commission for registration of candidates for election as Members of Parliament,” the court said.
