We Had No Hand In Amakye Dede’s Crowning Of Kuami Eugene – Charterhouse

Organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Charterhouse Production Ltd, have said they had no hand in Amakye Dede‘s crowning of Kuami Eugene as the future king of highlife in Ghana at the 2019 VGMAs.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Robert Klah, head of public events and communication at Charterhouse said: “We did not orchestrate any crowning session.”

“So I am a bit lost when it comes to the assertion that event organisers are responsible.”

“We work with a team… so, you give them an opportunity, they create what they want to do, …the only thing is that you want to ensure that whatever they are going to present is not distasteful, so they get there and perform their act and you move on,” Klah added.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Amakye Dede in an interview on the same radio station revealed that he was forced to crown the young highlife and Afrobeat singer after he came under a barrage of attacks from players in the music industry, including the record producer Zapp Mallet.

“Though I did that, it was not my will to do so. They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene,” he said.
