Jose Mourinho discusses Real Madrid & PSG links ahead of Europa League final
Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has claimed that he has not held talks with any other clubs regarding a move away from the Italian capital this summer.
The Portuguese tactician has one year left on his contract at the Stadio Olimpico, though has been consistently linked with a move away in recent weeks.
PSG have been touted with an interest due to his restoration of Roma’s European pedigree, while former club Real Madrid are said to have held talks with Mourinho regarding a return to the Santiago Bernabeu if they sack Carlo Ancelotti.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Sevilla, Mourinho was asked whether he had been in touch with any other clubs.
“I have zero contact with other clubs, really,” Mourinho said. “I think about tomorrow and what we want to do, because we want to play.”
Though Mourinho has failed to take Roma into Serie A’s top four in either season in charge, he has led them to back-to-back European finals.
The Giallorossi beat Feyenoord in the final of last season’s Europa Conference League and can become the first team to win that competition and the Europa League with victory against Sevilla in Budapest.
Mourinho has won all five of his previous European finals, though Sevilla have a perfect record at this stage of the Europa League with six wins from six.
“History does not play,” Mourinho continued. “My colleague [Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mendilibar] thinks differently, I have respect for him. He believes history makes Sevilla favourites; I respect that. We are in the final because we deserve it, they have a history that we don’t have.
“For them playing a Europa final is a normal thing, for us it is an extraordinary event. For their fans traveling to a final, it’s like going away in the league, for ours it will be unforgettable.
“The Sevilla players have more experience, but we’ve been playing together two years.
