Bad Officiating in GPL: We met FIFA to bring VAR into Ghana League – Prosper Addo
The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Addo has revealed the Ghana Football Association in a bid to improve officiating in Ghana’s elite league met FIFA for a possible introduction of the Video Assistant Referee in Ghana football.
Prosper Addo speaking on Kessben TV however stressed that due to the huge financial cost of the VAR system, the idea had to be postponed for the right time as the Association does not currently have the money to finance the introduction of the VRA now.
” You don’t destroy plans but you put it there when the time is right. An example is the VAR, We deliberated about it and held meetings with FIFA on it but the current VAR system requires a lot of money to be invested.
It is not only about just the VAR machine. It comes with a whole lot. It’s the whole system, the training and all that which it cost is not small money.
The GFA currently is not in the position to make that huge financial investment on that. According to FIFA, there’s a version of the VAR which will be less costly which is the VAR Lite, for that one we may be we can afford” He said.
