Bodyguard shoots his boss, minister to death, and shoots himself – Details
Col. (rtd) Charles Okello Engola, the state minister for labor, employment, and industrial relations in Ugannda, was fatally shot by his security before killing himself.
The sad event has brought forth a time of mourning throughout the nation of eastern Africa.
According to reports, the minister was assassinated early that morning at his house in the Kampala district of Kyanja.
Luke Owoyesigire, a spokesman for the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police, has confirmed the occurrence. He revealed that after killing Okello Engola with a gun, the bodyguard fled to a nearby salon and shot himself, apparently to get away from the cops.
“Yes. Go to Kyanja, there is a shooting. A soldier has shot his boss,” Owoyesigire told the media, as quoted by tuko.co.ke.
Reactions to the development and tributes have been made. Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Anita Among, was one of the important individuals to respond to the minister’s passing.
She expressed her sympathies to the bereaved family as she presided over the plenary meeting, saying that since the occurrence was part of God’s plan, neither she nor anybody else can change it or contest it.
The incident is being investigated by the nation’s law enforcement organizations, and the crime site has been roped off.
It is still unknown what led the soldier to assassinate the senior soldier who was functioning in a ministerial capacity while he was guarding him.
