NDC Parliamentary Primaries :Mahama Ayariga To Win By A Landslide – “The Eye Watch” Report
Mahama Ayariga, the incumbent MP for Bawku Central Constituency set to win the upcoming parliamentary primaries by a landslide victory.
‘The Eye Watch’ conducted a survey of a sample size of 400 delegates in the constituency out of the total of 1,341 delegates scheduled to vote to elect a parliamentary candidate who will then contest for the ticket of the NDC which comes off on the 13th of May, 2023.
Out of the total of 400 delegates who responded to the oral survey questions, 250 delegates representing 62.5% said their votes were going to vote for Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the incumbent member of Parliament. 21% percent said they need a change and a new face to be their MP and so, they are rooting for Lawyer Ustarz Jibreel Sa-ad, whilst 16.25% said they are ready to wrestle power from the incumbent for Theo Braimah Awanzan, an economist and former worker for World Bank.
In sharing their views and reasons for their pick, with ‘The Eye Watch’, 15.5% for Hon. Mahama Ayariga said he is the best man for the job as he has provided them with more boreholes than any MP could ever provide for his constituents, and water is the basic necessities of life which they were seriously lacking before his interventions. Majority of the respondents in favor of Mahama Ayariga making a total of 40% were of the view that, the MP needs another 4-year term continue bringing developmental projects including schools, toilet facilities. They said, all their children are in school and need not to walk 10s of kilometers’ to attend schools kind courtesy of the hardworking MP of the constituency.
When asked about the performance and delivery as their representative in Parliament, whether or not they are satisfied with the MP’s conduct in Parliament. They asked ‘The Eye Watch’ whether we are in Ghana or the team just felt from the skies to ask this question. Imoro( not real name), said ” If my MP stands on the floor of Parliament, no one stands to challenge whatever he says and that is the kind of MP they like and will vote for him ten times when allowed to do so. 12% of the respondents shared similar views of the performance of the MP. They are asking whether those two (2) candidates have what it takes to command listening ears in parliament. They further questioned what those candidates have done to support society as ordinary citizens in their respective communities visa-vis their current status in society. And what contributions have they both made as members of the party over the years to deserve the votes of delegates?
“The Eye Watch” interacted with 5 out of the 9 executives in each polling station across 80 polling stations out of the total of 149 polling station executives who are delegates and legible to vote to elect a candidate on the ticket of the NDC. ” The Eye Watch” wouldn’t want to disclose some identities and polling stations and executives interviewed due to the security situation in the constituency.
