Vacant Kumawu Seat: Verify Potential Aspirants Citizenship Status- NPP Executives told

Some Constituents in the Kumawu Constituency have charged the New Patriotic Party Executives to make sure that all potential aspirants from the diaspora have their citizenship checked with foreign missions.

According to them, the NPP must check that anyone who is contesting the Kumawu seat with affiliation to any diaspora country should have fully denounced their citizenship to avoid court cases after the bye-election.

It will be recalled that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin declared the Kumawu Constituency seat vacant on Friday, March 31, 2023, following the death of the Member of Parliament (MP), Philip Basoah who served on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The speaker noted he had formally communicated to the chairperson of the EC about the unfortunate demise of their colleague, which had led to a vacancy in the House and has requested the EC Chairperson to take consequential action as required by law.
Kessben on a field trip to the Kumawu constituency interacted with some constituents and noted some potential aspirants that maybe be contesting the vacant seat.
Popular names picked up from the constituency by the Kessben team included Lawyer Edward Kofi Osei, Dr Aboagye Dacosta, Dr Philip Bannor and Mr Ernest Yaw Anim. Some of the constituents noted that all these potential popular aspirants have some connections with a diaspora branch and though some are working in Ghana, their citizenship must be checked fully to avoid court cases after the bye-election.
