Rebuild My Demolished Stores Or Face My Wrath – Kwabenya Manye
The Queen Mother of the Kwabenya , Naa Korkoi Dugbartey I I who is also caretaker chief of Kwabenya has appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East Madam Kaaki Mann to as soon as practicable take steps to to reconstruct her stores she demolished . Anything short of that will lead to unpleasant tango between the two of them.
Addressing a Press Conference at her palace, the queen looking so unsettled gave the MCE two months ultimatum to reconstruct the stores else hell will break loose. Naa Korkoi recounted how her stores were nocturnally destroyed at 2 am when everybody was asleep for no justifiable cause.This incident happened in January ,2022. Ironically she reported to the queen mother, to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey. Upon hearing both sides ,the minister ordered the MCE to apologise to the queen mother and reconstruct the stores as soon as practicable. This was after the case had been reported to the Commander of the Accra Central Police who refused to listen to her side of the story. But from August 2022 to date no construction whatsoever and the MCE has refused to obey the instructions of the Regional Minister who has also not taken any action against her. The queen mother took a serious view of the MCE’s behaviour and therefore appealed to the Regional Minister to crack the whip to bring the woman to order. Naa opined that it’s the responsibility of the regional minister to see to it that his instructions are obeyed.
This is our land, am the queen mother ,l superintend over all the lands for my people. How on Earth can you deprive me of my livelihood ? The Regional Minister must act decisively and now else the youth will rise up to defend me ,Naa fumed.
Naa also alleged that the MCE has unilaterally sold or allocated some plots of land to some unknown persons for development without her knowledge and consent. When the elders investigated, it found that it’s the MCE who is the brain behind this illegal deal. When she was confronted she called the bluff of the queen mother and her elders and construction is on-going against their wish .
The MCE has also reallocated some lands to some developers around Kwabenya market without recourse to the the queen mother and her elders .Recently she sold a land to a Chinese Company and took huge money, from which they are fast developing such parcel of land . This same land was sold sometime ago by Hon Tulasi but the elders fought and stopped the buyer from developing it around the Ga East Hospital area. In effect they are accusing her of utter disrespect , rudeness, arrogance without due recognition of traditions and assembly bye laws but doing her own thing to please herself.
They are therefore calling for the removal of the MCE for allegedly Fighting with everybody in the municipality,; Total disrespect and non recognition for the elders of the municipality ; grabbing and selling lands indiscriminately ; Allocating unauthorised lands in the municipality ; Disobeying Regional Ministers Instructions with impunity ; Soliciting As from the market women ; Dragging the President and NPP party in the mud ; Refusing to listen anyone’s advice or suggestions ,etc .
