Management of the Kejetia market must be blamed – Emmanuel Danso of Contractor construction speaks
According to the local consultant of the contractor construction, Emmanuel Danso, if there had been enough maintenance of the facilities at Kejetia City Market, the Wednesday fire outbreak at some parts of the market would have been avoided.
Emmanuel Danso revealed that after the completion of the market a few years ago fire sprinklers that automatically fight fire outbreaks were installed at the market but a few years on it has not been functional due to the lack of proper maintenance.
He noted that the sprinkler system which is an active fire protection system method, consisting of a water supply system providing adequate pressure and flow rate to a water distribution piping system, to which fire sprinklers were connected.
Unfortunately before Wednesday’s fire, the sprinklers had been disconnected from the water supply. This is said to be under the supervision of the management of the market.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Akuoko Kwarteng, Mr. Danso urged the authorities to be proactive on maintenance.
