SONA 2023: Akufo Addo celebrates Ghanaian women on (IWD)

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has celebrated women in Ghana and around the world on International Women’s Day (IWD).

The President speaking at the 2023 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in parliament took time out to recognize women around the world for their contributions to humanity.

International Women’s Day is a global celebration celebrated yearly on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to problems such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

“Allow me to acknowledge and appreciate the significance of the day, and heartily congratulate women all over the world, and especially women in Ghana, for the role they play in realizing the dreams, cares and aspirations of humankind and of this great nation”

President Nana Addo also recognized the leadership roles of women in all facets of human life.

“The presence of women leaders, at both the local and national fronts, have advanced rights, enhanced equality, and, in general, improved the living standards and quality of lives of all concerned, including that of men” He said.

The overall subject for this year’s International women’s day is #EMBRACEEQUITY, and the UN theme DigitALL:

Women who promote transformational technology and digital education are recognized and celebrated in the category of innovation and technology for gender equality.
