Japan-Korea World Cup Qualifies: “We (Ghana) sold the Nigeria game” – Kenneth Ababio Betumame finally reveals
Former Black Stars Player, Kenneth Ababio has made a damming revelation as to why Ghana failed to qualify for the Japan-Korea World cup.
According to the ex-Ashantigold footballer who was part of the team, Ghana sold the game to Nigeria to play it soft which resulted in the loss.
Kenneth Ababio speaking in an interview on Kessben TV disclosed that at the time Ghana had one of the best teams in the continent made up of more local players but unfortunately could not qualify for the Japan-Korea World Cup because Ghana sold their last game against Nigeria.
“Currently no local player is ready for the Black Stars. We all saw what they went to the CHAN to do. If you look at them, tell me who is ready for the Black Stars? No one.
They should let them play here for long. But letting those players who sit on the bench abroad come to the national team to come also and sit on the bench of the Black Stars, it will be better for us to invite the local players rather than to invite the foreign guys and come sit at the bench but truly speaking none the local players now is ready to for Black Stars.
During my Goldfield days, we had about 10 players who were all local players at the Black Stars. When we were playing the 2002 Japan-Korea World Cup, you saw the players we had? We beat Liberia and for the Nigeria game, we sold it.
I’m telling you, I was part of the team. They told us we should only go and play nice football. What do you mean by that? For me, if you interview me, you will get problems oh because I say it as it is. For that game we sold it. We beat all the teams and sold the last game against Nigeria” Kenneth Ababio said.
