Sometimes I work for free – Kin Dee details challenges as a record producer

Ghanaian record producer and sound engineer Kwabena Ofosu Ankomah, known in showbiz as Kin Dee, reveals he still records some selected artistes for free.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Yaw Gyebi, host of Adwumapa mbre on Connect 97.1fm, Kin Dee expressed some of the challenges he faces as a sound engineer, some of which are having to record musicians for free out of pity or love.

“Sometimes artistes come and beg for certain conditions to have their music recorded. Some I have a good relationship with, so I consider. I do it for free at times. But you can’t just show up from nowhere and beg me to record you for free, that I won’t.”

Adding to that, the sound engineer explained that it is easy working with humble musicians. He used Kofi Kinaata as an example. He said, “I enjoy working with Kofi Kinaata because he’s humble and listens to advice. He’s my brother. I like how he makes working with him very easy. He always comes up with good ideas. It’s good when an artist knows what they want and listens. It’s so satisfying working with such an artiste because it makes the final product very good.”

Kin Dee is an accomplished Ghanaian producer with a unique approach to making music. He’s known for producing several hit songs, including Kofi Kinaata’s Susuka, Sweetie Pie, Confession and Thy Grace II. Guru’s Bonsam Ani and Suicide. And Yaa Pono’s Chocho Mucho.
