Resettlement for Bibiani Zongo & Old Town Residents: I did not request $5 million – Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Speaks

The residents of Bibiani Zongo and Old town have still not been resettled after Mensing Gold started operation in their neighborhood.

Per the agreement after Mensing secured mining operation in the Bibiani, the residents of Bibiani Zongo and Old town were to be relocated to a new place live.

Unfortunately for these residents, they are still living under the nose of the mining site with more harsh living conditions amid the heavy dust and blasting.

Nana Kodom II, the Bibiani chief apparently alleged that the Sewfi Anhwiaso Chief, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi demanded $5 million from the Mensing mining company before he will provide land for the mining company to resettle the people of Bibiani Zongo and the Old town.

In a rebuttal interview on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Kwame Appiah Kubi, Omanhene Ogyeahoho completely rubbished the claims by Nana Kodom II.

According to him, the mining company in collaboration with the traditional authorities are in the process of compensating all affected residents and thus urged the people to remain calm.

The residents of Bibiani Zongo and the Old town last week stormed the site to protest over what they described as being scammed.
