Kwadaso: Onion importers cry over huge losses as vegetables rot amid border closure

The Union of Onion importers in Ghana is pleading with the Ghana Government to work out a possibility for the Niger border to be open following last month’s coup in Niger.

According to the Kwadaso-based Onion importers, since the closure of the Niger border, importation of the vegetables has been a hell process for them.

The secretary of the union, Alhaji Abdullah, speaking with Kessben TV”s Osempankani Sampson revealed that ever since the closure, importers have lost over GHC400,000 through rotten vegetables due to the delays.

He noted that an alternative route which is only available for the onions to be transported is not safe as terrorists have taken over that path.

As a matter of urgency, the union wants the Ghana Government to liaise well with the taken-over military leadership to find a common ground for the border to be opened.
