Increment in tuition fees of private schools, We can only appeal to them to adjust – GES

The Deputy Public Relations officer of the Ministry of Education, Yaw Poku Mensah has reiterated the ministry does not have any control over the tuition fees that are charged by private schools across Ghana.

Yaw Poku Mensah speaking on Kessben FM’s Breaking News with Kwasi Ntiamoah stressed that the ministry can only appeal to the Private schools to adjust their fees amid the current economic hardship.

The Private Schools however say the increment of the tuition fees is borne out of the increasing High cost of living which has left them with no other choice but to increase fees and other charges to continue to stay in business.

The ministry thus urged the schools to consider the current economic hardship and cut down some of the students’ bills to parents.

A primary school student in a Ghanaian private school is averaging a cost of Ghc800 only on books as the 2023 academy calendar commences.

The headache has left so many parents worried over deciding to withdraw their wards to public basic schools.
