Women have no financial responsibilities in Marriage – Prophetess Akua Yeboah Asuamah argues

Kessben FM’s newscaster, Akua Yeboah Asuamah widely known as Prophetess Akua has argued that women should not be made to take any financial responsibilities in a marriage set up of a family.

Reacting to a topical issue on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Sammy Adu Boakye on Tuesday, 3rd Jan 2023, the newscaster stressed that the onus of financial responsibilities should always be on the men.

Akua Yeboah supported her argument with Biblical and Quranic quotations emphasizing why women ought not to take financial responsibilities while in marriage.

Men are the caretakers of women, as men have been provisioned by Allah over women and tasked with supporting them financially. And righteous women are devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with.1 And if you sense ill-conduct from your women, advise them ˹first˺, ˹if they persist,˺ do not share their beds, ˹but if they still persist,˺ then discipline them ˹gently˺.2 But if they change their ways, do not be unjust to them. Surely Allah is Most High, All-Great” She supported her argument with the above quote in the Quran, 3:34.

Her opinion was strongly opposed by co-panel, Kwame Frimpong Sims who reckons marriage irrespective of the roles has today become a collective effort of both wife and husband.
