Man Utd deliver final goodbye to Cristiano Ronaldo in matchday programme

Manchester United delivered a final parting goodbye to Cristiano Ronaldo in their matchday programme for the Carabao Cup clash with Burnley on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils parted ways with the Portugal international in late November after he criticised the club in a high profile interview with Piers Morgan.

The cup game against Burnley was United’s first official match following Ronaldo’s exit and the occasion was marked with a reminder of how the relationship ended.

“Cristiano Ronaldo left the club by mutual agreement last month,” the programme notes read.

“The Portuguese superstar scored 145 goals across two spells and 436 appearances, and helped us win three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Ronaldo was also crowned Ballon d’Or winner in 2008.

“In a statement on November 22, the club put on record its gratitude for Cristiano’s immense contribution and wished him and his family well for the future.”

Ronaldo is yet to confirm his next move following his disappointing World Cup campaign with Portugal.

The legendary forward struggled in Qatar before being dropped for Goncalo Ramos, who netted a hat trick in a 6-1 last 16 thrashing of Switzerland. However, the Selecao were then dumped out of the tournament by Morocco on penalties.

Eintracht Frankfurt CEO Axel Hellmann recently revealed his side were given the chance to sign Ronaldo, who has also received a world record offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr on the table.

Manager Erik ten Hag will now look to January and strengthening his squad. 90min understands the Dutchman remains interested in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, while United a move for World Cup star Cody Gakpo has also been sanctioned.
