AR/ Sad: Farms of Akyem Asuom residents destroyed for mining activity to start (Video)
Some farmers in Akyem Asuom in the Ashanti Region of Ghana have seen their farmlands destroyed by the authorities to make way for a mining company to start mining in the Akyem Asuom.
One of the farmers speaking on Kessben FM’s Breaking News with Kwasi Ntiamoah said the authorities did not have any prior arrangement with them even before the bulldozer invaded their farmlands.
He noted that after the destruction they went to the office of the DCE of the area who told them that it was the Government that had given a license to the said mining company to mine, a reason why they had to destroy the farmlands.
According to the farmer, the DCE told them that, what is in the land is more valuable than what is on the land indicating justification for the wicked move.
He noted that the chief of the area is fully aware of the happenings stressing that the unfortunate aspect of the whole issue is that they have not even discussed any compensation package with them.
