Passengers can go to strike for a week or go to court, we won’t reduce transport fares – Drivers Association
The Public relations officer of the True Drivers Union, Yaw Berimah has called the bluff of Ghanaians after stressing that passengers who reckon transport fares should be reduced can proceed to strike to demonstrate their claims.
Following the recent fuel price reduction in Ghana, absolutely nothing has been said about reduction relating to the reduction from the various stakeholders.
Many have expressed utmost disappointment in the transport ministry for sitting idle over such a development as the masses suffer.
The GPRTU in collaboration with all the stakeholders’ apparently agreed transport fares will be adjusted automatically anytime fuel prices go up or down more
than 10 percent cumulatively, which has taken effect since last March.
Yaw Berimah, the public relations officer of the True Driver Association speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Kwame Appiah Kubi categorically stated that they have no intention of reducing the transport fares as widely called for by the citizenry over the recent reduction in petroleum prices.
He argued that fuel prices are not the only determinant factor for increasing or reducing transport fares noting prices of spare parts, engine oil, and others have also shot up.
“They can decide to go strike for one week to demonstrate their claims for us to all see or better still the only place for them to go is to head to court. We have not met to think about reducing the fares. Yaw Berimah said.
