I don't have intentions to destabilise Ashanti – Regional Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah has dismissed reports that he is stock piling arms and ammunitions and recruiting ‘macho men’ in an effort to destabilize the region on December 7th.

According to him, there is no iota of truth in the rumor and has thus urged the general public to treat the report with the contempt it deserves.

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, the regional minister said, “anyone who knows me very well and knows the environs of the residency of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council will treat these allegations with the contempt that they deserve. All the allegations of training of macho men at the residency with the intention of using them to destabilize the forthcoming elections, this is completely unfounded.”

He explained that perhaps people might have seen members of some voluntary keep fit clubs training at some open spaces in front of the Regional Coordinating Council and other areas within the vicinity and have “misconstrued that macho men were being engaged by the Regional Minister.”

Dr. Agyemang-Mensah however, clarified that he had no links with those keep fit clubs.

Regarding the alleged stock piling of arms at his residence ahead of the elections, the Minister remarked, “there is no iota of truth in the allegation or rumours. My doors are always open for anyone who ascertains the veracity of these wicked rumours.”

The Minister however warned, “I therefore want to warn any person or any groups of persons who may have the intention or might have harboured any such intentions to destabilize the peace of this region that the security agencies are ready and willing to deal with anyone who makes any attempt to disturb the peace of the region irrespective of his or her political affiliation.”
