Harry Maguire, James Maddison And Trent Alexander-Arnold Named In England’s World Cup Squad
Leicester City playmaker James Maddison will be going to the 2022 World Cup with England.
Maddison has not played for England since making his debut in 2019.
But manager Gareth Southgate recalled him on Thursday when he named his 26-man party for Qatar 2022.
Another player brought back into the fold by Southgate was Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Southgate had previously suggested that Alexander-Arnold would miss out but an injury to Chelsea right-back Reece James appears to have changed his mind.
Southgate opted to selected Newcastle striker Callum Wilson instead of Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
England will be captained in Qatar by Tottenham forward Harry Kane. Eric Dier is the only other Spurs player in the squad.
Five squad members are from Manchester City – John Stones, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United are providing three players each.
The only player selected from outside of the Premier League was Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
