Abdul Salam Yakubu the Bankroller of Division one side, New Edubaise has said that it is high time the handlers for the national team call-ups, especially for Black Stars turn key focus on home-based footballers.
Speaking on Kessben TV, Abdul Salam Yakubu encouraged the powers that be to as matter of urgency to create slots for home-based footballers in tournament squads for the Black Stars.
He noted that it would not be far-fetched if the Black Stars squad for the Qatar 2022 Worldcup gets at least 6 players from clubs like Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, Medeama SC, and possibly from a division one side.
According to him, such an initiative will encourage others who ply their trade locally to be more encouraged to do more.
Abdul Salam reckons this will do away with the usual abhorrent tradition of begging foreign-based footballers to play for the national teams.
