Resign for your ‘disappointed chameleon’ comment – Physician Assistants to GMA President

The Ghana Physician Assistants Association (GPAA) has asked the President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Frank Serebour, to resign from post.

It says his continuous stay in office “shall be dangerous to the country’s health professionals’ ecosystem.”

This follows an alleged “divisive and unfortunate” comment by the GMA President that some healthcare cadres in the healthcare delivery machinery are “disappointed chameleons.”

According to the group, it was disappointing for Dr Serebour to descend so low “into the gutters” and make such public utterances, which could only mar the existing relationship between the various health unions and practitioners.

“This goes to demonstrate that some actors and leaders in the healthcare delivery chain are full of egos. It must be put on record that health service delivery is a teamwork… it is not about only doctors,” the Physician Assistants said in a statement.

They noted that superiority complex being demonstrated by the medical doctors must stop, and that some practitioners in the health sector must not be seen to be lesser professionals and be describes as “disappointed chameleons and others as dragons in slumber.”

According to the GPAA, some of the medical doctors are never satisfied with all the respect borne out of humility given them by other health professionals.

However, they should note that they alone cannot do everything in the sector if others do not support.

The Physician Assistants explained that there should be room any union to express their grievances and demand better conditions of service.

But when such is done, no other group or union should feel “threatened” by making public statements that could only create chaos and tension.

“He (Dr Serebour) says doctors should breath fire and brimstones to ensure that nobody withstand their might. Our harmless questions are; can he and his cohorts performs all the tasks in the health system?; does it also mean he is the team leader of disappointed chameleons as we are aware he works with some of the people he described as disappointed chameleons in his facility?”

They also want the GMA President to withdraw and render an unqualified apology to other health professionals who might be offended his comments.

“Henceforth, we shall be reading deeper meaning into every posture and actions of GMA and its officials,” the Physician Assistants added.
