“See something, Say Something” yielding positive impact- U/E Reg’l Minister
The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has disclosed that the government’s initiative ‘See Something, Say Something” has been embraced by the people whiles at the same time rigorous sensitization to get the message to the core of the communities has also started.
Located in the northeastern corner of Ghana and bordered by Burkina Faso to the north and Togo to the east, the region remains a cardinal point of Ghana’s countermeasures to ward off any terrorist threats.
Mr. Stephen Yakubu who took his turn at the Ministry of Information’s ‘State of the Region Report’, said the establishment of Forward Operating BASE(FOBs) on border communities and the supply of relevant logistics to the Regional Security Agencies are actively ongoing.
The Regional Minister in view of the aforementioned coupled with the relative peace residents are enjoying, invited visitors and investors to the region.
He cited the vast gold deposits for the mining industry, clay deposits for ceramic production, arable land for cereal production, and vegetable and irrigation facilities for year-round vegetable production and aquaculture.
Mr Yakubu who touted the achievements of the New Patriotic Party-led administration said 507,823 farmers have benefited from the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme in the region since 2017.
“In 2017, 30,009 farmers participated in the programme. The number increased to 65,837 in 2018 and 142,142 in 2019. In 2020, 185,012 farmers benefitted. In 2022, however, the number dropped to 84,823 farmers. Within that same period, 2,107.9 metric tonnes of improved seeds were supplied to the farmers who enlisted for the programme”.
On health, the region has benefited from 16 ambulances under the “One constituency, One Ambulance” initiative.
This is a departure from the hitherto three functional ambulances. The government’s Agenda 111 is also progressing steadily as he gave a breakdown of the status of work on the eight hospitals the region is benefiting from. The hospitals are being built in Bolgatanga East, Nabdam, Garu, Tempane, Pisuga, Kassena-Nankana West and Builsa South.
