MP ‘cries’ over the impact of high fuel prices

The hikes in fuel prices are not just hitting hard on the ordinary Ghanaian but Members of Parliament too.

During Parliamentary proceedings on Friday, November 4, a business statement was presented by the Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for next week.

After the business statement, a lawmaker for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko appealed to the Business Committee chaired by the Majority Leader to reduce the number of parliamentary sitting days from 5 to two in a week.

He also appealed to the house to consider extending the sitting hours to 8 from the current 4 and half hours.

According to him, times have become hard coupled with high fuel prices.

The lawmaker said since the house resumed, Members usually do not have enough work to do daily yet they have to keep buying fuel for their vehicles (V8) to work.

He said it has been difficult for him to buy fuel for his car, indicating a few days ago he went to the pumps and had to spend 3,000 on fuel.
