“Football Misses Lionel Messi”: La Liga President Claims Most Fans Don’t Watch Ligue 1

Messi is halfway through his second season with the French champions, having ended his record-breaking two-decade stint at the Camp Nou in August 2021.

He has been in sublime form for PSG this season, providing seven goals and 10 assists in just 12 French league matches.

But Tebas believes that Messi deserves to be playing on a bigger stage where more fans can witness his brilliance.

“I think that Messi is not only missed in La Liga, he is missed in football, because the French league is what it is, right?” said Tebas during the Ole Sports Summit

“I think that no matter how good he is at PSG, he is followed much less than when he was at Futbol Club Barcelona.

“Therefore, football misses Lionel Messi and we hope he has a great World Cup, because there we will all be able to see him again.

“I don’t see all the fans watching PSG against Nantes, I don’t see it. With Barca, within a league, I did see him much more often.”

Messi’s current contract with PSG is due to expire in June 2023.

PSG are understood to be keen to extend his stay in Paris, although a return to Barcelona has long been rumored.

But recent reports suggest that Inter Miami could be Messi’s most likely destination next summer.

According to The Athletic, Inter Miami bosses expect Messi to sign following two years of transfer talks.
