Economic Woes: Let’s Be Patient And Wait On The Lord – Most Reverend Kwabena Boafo To Ghanaians
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church and the immediate past Chairman of the Christian Council, Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo says the church believes that God is taking the country through this difficult time in order for his Glory to be seen and established, therefore there is the need to be patient and wait upon the Lord.
The church of Ghana seems to be failing the population of Ghana. This is because the church at this time must be the source of hope and leadership to the people of Ghana but seems to be silent about the current economic situation. Reacting to this, Most Rev’d Boafo says, the church at this point is engaging with the government authorities at least to bring interventions to help alleviate the burdens of its members and the public at a whole.
Speaking with Eunice Odai exclusively, he mentioned that the church is not only interested in the spiritual aspect of its members but also focuses on their livelihood. So the church in its way organizes and engages its members into small scale business and also give them the necessary education they need. He also stated that, globally everyone is going through an economic crisis due the Covid -19 pandemic and Russia – Ukraine which are the main factors to the economic woes which Ghana is not exempted. Explaining further, the Most Reverend stated that, Ghana being a middle-income economy imports more than exports hence the reason why the impact is felt intensively but God being interested in all aspect of his children will see us through this situation and Glory will be given to his name.
Most Reverend Paul Kwabena Boafo, presiding Bishop for the Methodist Church Ghana and immediate past chairman of the Christian Council has asked the public and government to be mindful of their utterances, this he said reacting to the comments passed by Okyehene where it was interpreted as harsh.
According to him, the current situation we face as a country triggers every emotion, however doesn’t justify our actions as an individual and public as a whole. He said that due to democracy, every individual expresses himself and mostly done in the wrong but that’s not part of the traits of a Ghanaian because Ghanaians are known to be of good behavior and of good conduct. Most Reverend Boafo says we need to give respect to whom respect is due, and urged leaders in authority to respect their subordinates as their subordinates does same to them because according to him, if this is not done, the society will degenerate chaos. Respect is earned not demanded he added.
