Qatar 2022 Worldcup: Appearance fees should be used for football development/ infrastructure – Hamza Mohammed

Former Black Stars midfielder, Hamza Mohammed has urged the powers that be to channel a heavy chunk of the appearance fees given to nations that participate in FIFA Worldcup for football infrastructure projects.

Hamzah Mohammed wants to see a structure where the monies that are given to the nations by FIFA are invested back in football.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Extra Time Sports, the former Asante Kotoko footballer noted that it will be more prudent if the appearance fee given by FIFA is used for football development than to share it among players and officials.

“The appearance fee should be used to develop our football, like the youth football, the lower divisions, the women’s football, and others. Not just for players and officials that would be fighting over it.

It should rather be channeled to the development of the game especially the infrastructure but unfortunately here most going to the players. Not saying is wrong for the players but at least a heavy chunk should go to development programmes than giving appearance fees here and there.

We love the game but unfortunately, we don’t have good football pitches, etc. It is only right to invest back in the game. Said Hamza.
