A chunk of Ghana’s debt was created by Mahama’s administration – Tolon MP

The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament Habib Iddrisu has said a large portion of Ghana’s debt was created by the government of John Dramani Mahama.

He explained on the New Day show with Johnnie Hughes on TV3 Tuesday, October 25 that the banking sector challenges, that cost the Akufo-Addo administration huge amounts of money to resolve, started under Mr Mahama’s watch.

He said it took the decision by President Akufo-Addo to inject capital to clean up the sector and rescue the savings of millions of depositors thereby, adding up to the debt situation.

Mr Iddrisu also said debt was left behind by Mr Mahama in the energy sector.

“A chunk of the debt was left by the NDC,” the Tolon Member of Parliament said.

He added ” the banking sector mess was not caused by this government, it was caused by the NDC. The energy sector debt created by the Mahama administration.”

He further appealed to Ghanaians to have patience with the Akufo-Addo administration to resolve the economic challenges.

He indicated that every country is facing similar challenges.

“I do agree that times are hard but this government is working hard to resolve. There is no country that is not facing economic challenges. Even the developed countries, UK, the Prime Minister resigned because of the economic challenges, they can’t manage, the Finance Minister is gone,” he said.
