Premier League forwards – 2022/23 power rankings

We’re almost two months into the Premier League season, and already certain players are beginning to stand out from the crowd.
Let’s take a look at who we think have been the ten best forwards in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign so far…
10. Gianluca Scamacca (new entry)

Finally playing in the Premier League for West Ham and, lo and behold, he’s banging in the goals.
Scamacca was vey impressive in the Hammers’ weekend win over Wolves.
9. Ivan Toney (-)

Toney has gone from strength to strength ever since that nice kick-about with the boys in Brentford’s first-ever Premier League game.
The 26-year-old demonstrated all his attacking qualities with a hat-trick in the Bees’ 5-2 victory over Leeds and earned himself a place in the England squad for the first time.
He scored at the weekend, although Newcastle scored a lot more…
8. Antony (new entry)

Three goals in three Premier League appearances for Antony at Manchester United.
The £100m man looks a serious talent.
7. Roberto Firmino (-)

Many would have expected Roberto Firmino to warm the bench at Liverpool this season, but he’s actually been their best forward by quite some way.
He has six goals and three assists in five starts, and looks back to his very best. Darwin who?
6. Phil Foden (-)

Phil Foden’s 2022/23 campaign had been solid but somewhat unspectacular, and then came the Manchester derby.
He achieved his dream of scoring against his side’s local rivals, and then went and got two more after that, becoming the youngest player ever to score 50 goals under Pep Guardiola, beating a record set by some bloke called Lionel.
He’s a bit good.
5. Gabriel Martinelli (new entry)

As expected Gabriel Martinelli really embarrassed Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Brazilian scored one and set up another the Gunners’ 3-2 win over Liverpool.
4. Bukayo Saka (new entry)

The England international jumps straight into the top five following an imperious performance against Liverpool.
Two goals, including the winner. Nice.
3. Harry Kane (up 2)

The general consensus is that Spurs haven’t really gotten going yet this season. Kane remains far from his omnipotent best so far this campaign, yet still has eight goals in his first nine games.
You dread to think what he’ll be like when he’s playing well.
2. Gabriel Jesus (-)

Turns out Gabrile Jesus is extremely good at football. Who knew?
With five goals and three assists already this season, the Brazilian has transformed Arsenal’s attack, tearing teams apart with his movement and dribbling ability.
1. Erling Haaland (-)

Remember when people were speculating on Manchester City’s ability to accommodate Haaland in their tactical setup? Remember the Darwin Nunez comparisons? Remember the Community Shield? Us neither.
Haaland has made a mockery of the Premier League so far, making scoring goals look so easy you almost want to make fun of Alan Shearer for only managing 260. If he stays at the Etihad for the long term, there’s no telling just how far the Norwegian can go.
