The only way to save this economy is to change the ”government”-Afriyie Ankrah

An aspiring General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has said the Akufo-Addo administration started messing up the economy way before the Covid and the Russia and Ukraine war broke out.

Recently, President Akufo-Addo recounted the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on African economies including Ghana.

He told the 77th Session of the UN General on Wednesday September 21 that just as Ghana and other African countries were trying to get out of the pandemic, the Russia invasion of Ukraine happened, compounding the situation.

He said “As we grappled with these economic challenges, Russia invasion of Ukraine burst upon us, aggravating an already difficult situation.

“It is not just the dismay that we feel at seeing such deliberate devastation of cities and towns in Europe in the year 2022, we are feeling this war directly in our lives in Africa.

“Every bullet, every bomb, every shell that hits a target in Ukraine, hit our pockets and our economies in Africa.”

But speaking on the New Day show with Johnnie Hughes on TV3 Wednesday October 12, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah said that the signs were clear that the economy was heading to a ditch prior to the pandemic and the war.

The credit rating agencies kept warning Ghana but the government didn’t listen, he added.

“The credit rating agencies started warning before Russia Ukraine,” he stressed.

The Former Minister of Youth and Sports further indicated that the only way to solve the economic challenges is to change the government in the next elections.

“The only way to save this economy is to change the [government], the situation is getting worse by the day.

“The only way is to remove the [Government],” he stressed.
