It’s not govt’s responsibility to create jobs… – Rocky Dawuni
Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and record producer, Rocky Dawuni, speaking on the 3FM Drive, has explained that job creation is not the sole responsibility of the government. He explained that the government is supposed to create an enabling environment to facilitate genuine entrepreneurship.
Rocky Awuni added that there should be skill training for the youth to complement the government’s efforts, as most lack employable skills.
He said: “The thing is that jobs are not necessarily the responsibility of the government. The government creates an enabling environment. The act of entrepreneurship is lacking if people are constantly waiting for the government. Even if the government creates jobs, how many jobs can one entity create to take care of the teeming number of youths?”
The two-time GRAMMY nominee advised Ghanaians to use their land and go into agriculture. According to Rocky Dawuni, entrepreneurship and private-sector collaborations with skill-based training is the way to go.
“All I am saying is that in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty. Everybody is crying out for jobs whiles we have land. We need the know-how, and we need to increase the ability of training and equip young people with new ideas about farming, farming as a business, and new types of plants.”
Rocky Dawuni also spoke on the sampling and copyright infringements in the music industry. He advised that there should be more education in that aspect while lauding the Global Citizen Festival organizers for using Ghanaian creatives to project Ghanaian crafts.
