Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Hon Paul Twum Berimah has stated that punitive punishment should be given to big men who are caught engaged in illegal mining activities.
The lawmaker speaking on Kessben TV with Kwame Appiah Kubi stressed it is not enough to only name and shame especially big men involve in Galamsey but to give out punitive punishment which will scare off others.
“It is not only about stopping the people who are doing it on the grounds but where they derive the power and authority from. If we do not stop it from there, it will be very difficult to end it.
Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has said if you know any big men involve, you should come out and mention the person’s name. So me Paul Twum Berimah if you know and have seen me engaged in it you should come out and name and shame and importantly prosecute.
You don’t just name and shame but give out punitive punishment so that it will scare others from engaging in it” He said
