Samuel Boadu leaves Hearts of Oak

Samuel Boadu has left his position as coach of Hearts of Oak by mutual consent following the club’s poor start to the season.

The Phobians earned a controversial draw against fierce rivals Asante Kotoko last weekend, giving them two points from a possible nine three games into the new Ghana Premier League season.

Boadu is said to have communicated his decision to board chairman Togbe Afede XIV, who has approved the former Medeama’s departure.

Boadu joined Hearts of Oak from Medeama in 2020 and quickly became a fan favourite after leading the club to their trophy drought.

In Boadu’s first season, Hearts of Oak won the Ghana Premier League for the first time since 2009, and he also won the MTN FA Cup. Hearts completed a treble in the 2020/21 season.

Last season, he successfully defended the FA Cup, but his failure to defend the league, in which Hearts finished 19 points behind Kotoko, and their dismal performance in Africa led many to question Boadu’s methods, including board member Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe.
